There are a couple of reasons for a bad/intermittent or low-quality connection between the devices:
1. Cable type.
2. Cable quality.
3. Cable distance.
4. Noise on the line.
1. Refer to the Datasheet for the distance and power delivery over a specific type of cable. Make sure your setup falls within this Spec.
2. Check the Cable for any damages. Joints should be properly fastened.
3. Confirm the cable distances involved and if possible the cable specification. It may just be the cable quality and/or distance that is causing the issue.
4. If the cable is running close by to powerlines or powerful electrical equipment, then this can induce noise on the cable. Make sure to introduce a substantial air gap between the cable and the noise source.
